Taking Chances, Making Friends, and Raising Nearly €10,000 for SOS

A few weeks ago, I took part in the Wackball Rally — and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. Together, we raised nearly €10,000 for Suicide or Survive (SOS), supporting their vital work in mental health and suicide prevention.

But this wasn’t just about cars or fundraising. For me, it was about taking a chance.

I went into the rally on my own, not really knowing anyone. That can feel daunting — the idea of putting yourself out there, talking about how you feel, or even just showing up somewhere new. It’s easy to let that fear stop you. But sometimes the hardest step is the first one — and once you take it, amazing things can happen.

From the moment I arrived, the welcome I got was incredible. I was brought straight into the group, and over the course of the rally I had one of the best weeks of my life. Driving some of the nicest roads I’ve ever seen, in the coolest car I’ve ever owned, surrounded by like-minded enthusiasts — it’s something I’ll never forget.

What made it even more special were the friendships I came away with. People I didn’t know at the start are now people I’ll carry forward with me in life. That sense of connection is powerful.

This whole experience has made me a happier person, and I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to have been part of it. A huge thank you to Ray O’Connor for including me — and to everyone who supported along the way.

Sometimes talking, making a change, or stepping into the unknown feels scary. But the truth is, it can open doors you never expected. The Wackball Rally reminded me of that — and I’ll carry it with me always.
